Alek Sigley, the Perth man who has been missing in North Korea for more than a week, is “safe and sound” in China.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the news in Parliament at 2.20pm (AEST) on Thursday.
Mr Sigley is now in China and will travel to Tokyo later today.
NK News reported on Thursday afternoon that the 29-year-old’s apparent release follows a visit to North Korea by a special envoy of the Swedish government.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to make a statement shortly to Parliament on the matter.
“I’m sure we all could not be more pleased. We know where he is now, safe.” the Prime Minister said on announcing Mr Sigley’s release.
