Instagram users across the globe have reported problems sharing to and accessing the Facebook-owned photo and video service in a day-long outage.
Instagram began having issues on Wednesday morning, with most of the user reports concentrated in the Northeast US and Western Europe, according to DownDetector.com.
Users of Facebook and WhatsApp were also encountering problems sharing photos, video and files, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed.
In a statement sent in the afternoon, a Facebook rep said, “During one of our routine maintenance operations, we triggered an issue that is making it difficult for some people to upload or send photos and videos. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
About four hours later, Facebook said “The issue has since been resolved and we should be back at 100 per cent for everyone.”
Disgruntled Instagram users took to Twitter to vent their frustration – while Twitter was having its own problems, related to its direct-messaging feature.
The latest problems come three weeks after Instagram had an outage that lasted more than two hours, on June 13.
