French journalists have reportedly been caught up in a protest at Adani’s Queensland coal terminal where two demonstrators have their hands locked inside a barrel.
Activist group Frontline Action on Coal was demonstrating on Monday against work on Adani’s proposed Carmichael coal mine at the Abbot Point terminal just north of Bowen.
While Queensland police are yet to confirm arrests, the group says three activists and four French journalists, including reporter Hugo Clement, have been arrested.
According to a Reuters report at the weekend, French energy giant Total SA is close to acquiring a 30 per cent stake in Indian gas distribution company Adani Gas
The demonstrations come after reports Adani would begin land clearing on the mine site in the Galilee Basin this week.
Police were working to remove the demonstrators who have blocked a rail line to the port.
Activists said the journalists were handcuffed and put in the back of a police car.

Queensland opposition leader Deb Frecklington said the protesters were “attacking jobs” that are not related to the mining industry.
“A number of businesses who have nothing to do with the resources industry couldn’t access their properties,” Ms Fecklington posted on Twitter.
Activists also targeted a concrete plant reportedly linked to the mining company in Brisbane on Monday.
A 75-year-old woman was among three demonstrators arrested following a two hour stand-off with police, The Courier-Mail reports.
