A van packed with more than $200 million worth of drugs has crashed into several police cars parked outside a police station in Sydney’s northwest.
Police say a 28-year-old man was driving the Toyota HiAce on Ethel Street when it hit the police vehicles outside Eastwood Police Station about 10.30am on Monday.
Officers pursued the van, stopping it in the nearby suburb of Ryde where a search uncovered several boxes containing 273 kilograms of the drug ice, NSW Police said in a statement on Tuesday.
The inspector spoke to the male driver before conducting the search.
The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $200 million, police said.
The man was charged with large commercial drug supply, negligent driving and not giving his particulars to police.
He was refused bail and is will appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
Police also seized the van for extensive forensic examination.
Detectives have appealed for motorists to provide dash cam footage from the area between 10.30am and 11.30am, as well as any CCTV or other vision, or information about the van’s movements throughout the morning.
