Extraordinary array of weapons seized from SA house

Gunpowder, semi-automatic rifles and a crossbow are among a litany of illegal firearms seized from a home in the Adelaide Hills, with some weapons found in hidden rooms.

Investigators from the Serious Firearms Branch and Eastern Adelaide detectives say the illegal cache of weapons was discovered during a search at a Brukunga home late on Friday afternoon.

It’s alleged among the “significant quantity of illicit firearms” were handguns, semi-automatic rifles, a large quantity of unsecured ammunition, a crossbow, silencer, gun powder, reloading equipment, throwing knives, daggers, bayonets and a quantity of military ammunition.

Officers also seized 32 registered firearms.

A 53-year-old man was charged with illegal firearm offences and refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Further forensic examination will be conducted on the firearms and it is expected the man will be charged with more offences, police said.
