Urgent search for man, 10-year-old girl missing in deep snow at Thredbo

Emergency services are desperately searching for a man and his daughter reported missing in deep snow at the Thredbo ski resort.

The 10-year-old girl and her father apparently became separated from their group while snowboarding, shortly before 3pm on Monday.

Police and Ambulance NSW have confirmed emergency services are on their way to search for the pair.

They are believed to no longer have their boards, and very little battery left on their mobile phone.

The father reportedly called NSW Ambulance shortly after 3pm, saying the pair were lost in deep snow without their snowboards and his phone was almost out of battery.

Thredbo has had heavy snowfalls in recent days as southern Australia was hit by a polar blast.

Superintendent Jordan Emery from NSW Ambulance told 2GB radio the search operation was a “mammoth task” due to the amount of snow that’s fallen this afternoon.

“Our hearts are in our mouths. We’re all really praying for a positive outcome this afternoon and we’re doing everything we can to try and secure that positive outcome,” Mr Emery said.

“We’re really hopeful that we’ll be able to locate them before the sun sets this evening.”
