Police are investigating the tragic death of a 27-year-old Sydney woman who plunged to her death after apparently taking a selfie on a cliff edge in Vaucluse.
Witnesses told police they believed she was taking photos when she fell 30 metres onto rocks about 11.20am on Saturday.
Bystanders treated her at the scene at Diamond Bay Reserve, a popular selfie and tourist spot but she died at the scene.
A rescue operation involving police, paramedics, a rescue helicopter and surf lifesavers was unable to save her.
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was on the scene after the woman fell, winching a rescue crew officer onto the ledge who began CPR.
“Our thoughts are with family and friends” it later tweeted.

Her body was retrieved from the rocks by PolAir.
A NSW police spokesperson told 10Daily that the circumstances of the fall are unknown at this stage but it is likely a case of “misadventure”.

Waverley Council had earlier said it would crack down on thrill-seekers risking their lives for a picturesque selfie at Diamond Bay, Network Ten reported.
The council was investigating measures to stop recurring incidents where “tourists and photography enthusiasts” fell and were injured or killed.
