Plane with 100 on board crashes after take-off in Kazakhstan

A plane with 95 passengers and five crew members on board has crashed near Kazakhstan’s biggest city, Almaty.

Airport authorities said on Friday there were survivors and emergency services are working at the snow-blanketed site.

The plane was headed for Nur-Sultan, the Central Asian nation’s capital city.

The BBC reports the plane lost height shortly after take off at about 7.22am local time before clipping a concrete barrier and smashing into a two-storey building.

A frantic search for survivors is underway as rescuers rushed to the scene, with seven people confirmed dead.

An image posted to Twitter shows the nose of the ill-fated plane.

Footage posted to social media reveals a mess of mangled plane parts protruding from a building as people sift through the wreckage for any signs of life.
