The unemployment rate has improved to seasonally adjusted 5.2 per cent as the Australian economy added a better-than-expected 39,900 jobs in November.
Thursday’s figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics – which featured a 4200 increase in people with full-time work and 35,700 extra people in part-time employment – followed a disappointing October where 19,000 jobs were shed from the workforce and unemployment rose to 5.3 per cent.
Most economists had expected November’s unemployment rate to remain unchanged. The Australian dollar jumped from 68.60 US cents to 68.68 within minutes of the monthly data being released.
