Victoria is expected to confirm a further 723 new cases of coronavirus, Australia’s highest daily total since the pandemic started.
Premier Daniel Andrews is scheduled to hold a press conference at 11:00am.
The expected rise in cases comes as Victoria works to contain more than 80 outbreaks at nursing homes in the state.
The spike comes after the state recorded 295 new cases on Tuesday, its lowest daily increase in more than a week.
Today’s increase is expected to surpass Victoria’s previous single-day record increase by more than 190 cases.
On Monday the state recorded 532 new infections.
Victoria has recorded a total of 9,304 coronavirus cases and 92 deaths since the pandemic began, not including today’s expected figures.
