Worker from Brisbane aged-care home confirmed with COVID

A staff member at the Karinya Place aged care home at Laidley, west of Brisbane, has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Owner of the facility, Carinity, said in a statement that the staffer did not work while experiencing symptoms and was in quarantine.

A resident and a small number of staff who were in contact with the infected person are self-isolating as a precaution.

The facility became aware of the positive case on Wednesday afternoon and started testing other residents and staff that night.

“Staff have been adhering to strict hygiene protocols and social distancing measures since March and have been well trained in the use of PPE [personal protective equipment],” a Carinity spokesperson said.

“We are also providing regular updates to residents, their families and our staff and will do so until we have confirmation that Karinya Place is clear of the virus.”
