NSW reports 344 new local cases, two virus deaths

New South Wales has reported 344 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and two more virus-related deaths including a man in his 30s with underlying health conditions.

State health officials revealed a man in his 30s from northern Sydney died at Northern Beaches Hospital, and a man in his 90s from southwest Sydney died at Concord Hospital.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian extended her “heartfelt condolences and sympathies to family and friends”.

“We want to stress that the man in his 30s did have other conditions as well,” she said.

“Notwithstanding [that], he obviously succumbed to COVID.”

The Premier also confirmed reports that stay-at-home restrictions would be extended to the Dubbo region from 1pm on Wednesday.

The news comes after New South Wales reported its highest number of daily cases since the beginning of the pandemic on Tuesday and extended the lockdown to Byron Shire.
